MY SPACE

My Space: Jordan Rondel

We visited Jordan Rondel (www.thecaker.co.nz) at the cute Auckland CBD apartment she shares with tattooist boyfriend Stefan Sinclair (Two Hands Tattoo). She introduced us to her wardrobe and shoe collection, a diverse mix of designer, chain store and vintage pieces found here and on trips to New York and Paris.

Where do you love to shop?

In Auckland I love to shop at Karen Walker for stand out pieces, Country Road for good basics, The Department Store for Top Shop and Simon James, op shops for cheap bargains and Mei Mei for shoes.

What are your favourite labels, New Zealand and international?

Internationally I love Celine, Isabel Marant, Philip Lim, Martin Margiela and Comme. In New Zealand I love Lonely Hearts, Twenty-Seven Names, Jimmy D and Nom*D.

Tell us about the beauty products you use.

I use some Environ skin care products and an Aesop moisturizer. When I wear makeup I use MAC or Bobbi Brown products. For my hair I use Kevin Murphy and Moroccan oil to keep it healthy.

What music, films and books are you into at the moment?

At the moment I'm listening to Cults, Pikachunes, Beach House, Wild Nothing and The Velvet Underground. I just finished reading two crime novels by Sophie Hannah, an unlikely genre for me, but I really enjoyed them. In terms of film, I watched The Darjeeling Limited again the other day (such a good sound track) and it brought back my love of all Wes Anderson films.

Are you inspired by other people or magazines or blogs in the way you dress?

I often look at the blogs Hanneli and Turned Out and l think they do inspire me, but not in a way that makes me say 'I need to dress like that,' just in a way that gives me little ideas about how to wear things I already have. I'm lucky to have a sister with really great style, which is different to mine, so we inspire each other a bit.

Best bargain?

Perhaps my Martin Margiela sweater that I got from Scotties Recycle for a really good price. I also have a pair of yellow Levi’s cut off shorts which I love and they cost a whole $5.

What were your five favourite pieces in this season’s shows for Winter 2012?

Lonely Hearts knitwear, Jimmy D long dresses, Workshop leather pants, Ruby fluoro shorts and Liam bright coloured coats.
